The Barbican Library
Hiding From the Bibliotheque Hunters

The library is like a chameleon which never moves.

The library sits on levels one and two of the Centre, is immediately visible from the podium floor as you enter the Centre, but is perfectly camouflaged so only the most experienced of library spotters could detects its presence. You have to take four flights of stairs or a lift to get there.

The labyrinthine nature of the Barbican estate is replicated inside the Centre. For that reason the Centre has a variety of security and information staff on hand to give directions. One security man with an African accent, who looks decidedly uncomfortable giving me a precise answer, tells me that he gives directions to the library to an average of two people per week.
