| The Old Blue Last @www.ravishlondon.com The Old Blue Last is trendy Shoreditch twat inhabiting old man’s boozer to electrical effect. From the outside the Old Blue Last looks pretty old and run down. Once you step inside there’s an air of decadence and decay. The bar staff are bohemian beautiful and on a Friday night the place is packed with art students and designers - fashionable creatures with designer spectacles and outrageous hair. But on a Friday night it aint poser territory – there simply isn’t enough room for it to be that. One internet pundit (on viewlondon.co.uk) hit the nail on the head when he said 'this is a friendly, attitude-free zone as people seem way more interested in their own outfits than worrying about anyone else’s'. Its cram packed so there’s plenty of chances of rubbing up against young beauties dressed as 1920s Charleston babes. Downstairs the music is rocking – Pixies, CSS and Morrissey to name but a few. If its new music you’re after you can pile upstairs to what is usually a free gig going on with plenty of up and coming and generally very good bands. One night I was there they’d put up these big poster boards for the revellers to doodle and express themselves on. But it’s just the general youth, enthusiasm and creativity of the people in this place which really makes it so much fun. There’s a real buzz about the Old Blue Last. Vice Old Blue Last is owned by Vice magazine, who acquired it in November 2004. VICE calls itself the ‘the world’s first free, internationally distributed lifestyle magazine, distributing 855,000 copies worldwide, with a circulation of 89,000 in the UK.’ Since Vice have been in ownership of the Old Blue Last it has managed to secure appearances from Arctic Monkeys, Lilley Allen and Sonic Youth. |
